Ferritin is a protein that stores iron in the body. It is found in the liver, spleen, and bone marrow. Ferritin levels are usually checked to diagnose or monitor iron deficiency anemia.
Iron deficiency anemia is a condition where there is not enough iron in the body for normal function. This can lead to fatigue and difficulty concentrating.
The normal levels for ferritin range from 10-300 ng/mL. About 70% of the body’s iron can be found in haemoglobin, while about 5% of the iron forms a component of certain proteins. 25% of the body’s iron is stored as ferritin, which is a protein that is usually found in the cells of the body, while a small amount of ferritin also circulates in the bloodstream.
